Emirates has officially completed the first installation of next-generation Starlink Wi-Fi on its Airbus A380 aircraft. This milestone marks a massive leap forward for inflight connectivity. Passengers flying on the iconic double-decker plane can now enjoy internet speeds up to a thousand times faster than before.

A Massive Boost in Connectivity

The A380 was one of the first commercial airplanes to offer onboard internet. However, older systems often delivered speeds of less than 1 Mbps. The newly installed Starlink setup changes everything by offering a true high-speed experience at 40,000 feet.

Key details of the new Starlink system include:

  • High-Speed Bandwidth: The system delivers more than 2 Gbps of total bandwidth, easily supporting the high passenger capacity of the double-decker aircraft.
  • Advanced Hardware: Each A380 features three Starlink antennas and extra wireless access points to handle heavy internet demand.
  • Free Access: The new high-speed service is completely complimentary for all passengers, regardless of their cabin class.
  • Upcoming Features: Emirates will soon add live TV streaming via Starlink. Passengers will watch on personal devices first, with seatback screen integration coming later.

Fleet Rollout and Quick Upgrades

The first upgraded A380 recently returned to Dubai after receiving its installation and certification in Newquay, United Kingdom. More A380 planes will undergo fast-tracked upgrades throughout 2026.

To speed up the fleet-wide rollout, Emirates will soon begin installing Starlink systems at its own Engineering facilities in Dubai. The airline has already equipped 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with the advanced Wi-Fi. So far, more than 650,000 passengers have tested and enjoyed the new service.

Broader Investments in Passenger Comfort

The Starlink upgrade is part of a larger effort by Emirates to improve the overall passenger experience. Through a major retrofit program, the airline has already refurbished 93 aircraft. These planes now feature upgraded cabins, fresh interiors, and modern inflight systems that offer more than 6,500 entertainment channels.

Additionally, Emirates opened an $8 million Centre of Hospitality Excellence in 2025. This dedicated facility will train 25,000 cabin crew members, ensuring the airline continues to deliver top-tier service quality across all global operations.
