Flight Delayed Here’s What Airlines Must Provide You Now

DUBAI: If your flight is delayed in Dubai, do not panic or wait without asking questions.

Under new rules from the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, airlines must inform you right away about:

  • The reason for the delay
  • How long it may take
  • What your next options are

This is your first right. Always approach the airline counter or check official updates.

Rebooking, Rerouting, or Refund: Know Your Options

You are not stuck waiting with no choice.

Airlines must offer you one of the following:

  • A seat on the next available flight
  • A reroute through another airline (if possible)
  • A full refund or travel voucher for unused tickets

These options apply during delays, cancellations, or major disruptions .

Free Meals and Hotel Stay: When You Can Claim Them

If the delay becomes longer, support increases.

Airlines must provide:

  • Meals and drinks
  • Access to communication (calls or internet)
  • Hotel stay if overnight delay is needed
  • Transport between airport and hotel

This applies once delays pass certain time limits under passenger welfare rules .

Special Priority for Vulnerable Passengers

Some passengers must receive faster and better support.

Airlines are required to prioritize:

  1. Elderly passengers
  2. Children traveling alone
  3. Passengers with special needs

If this applies to you, inform airline staff immediately.

When Airlines Are NOT Fully Liable

Not all delays mean compensation.

If the delay is caused by events outside airline control, such as:

  • Bad weather
  • Airport closures
  • Safety or security issues

This is called force majeure.

Airlines may not give compensation, but they must still help with basic care and rebooking
