Majid Al Futtaim, a leading retail pioneer in the MENA region, is getting ready to open its first shopping mall in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE… My City Centre Masdar. Yay!

As the name suggests, the AED 300 million community mall is located in Masdar City. Set to open in the second quarter of 2019, construction of the mall has created 1,500 new jobs during its “build out” phase — plus 2,000 more employment opportunities after the grand opening!
My City Centre Masdar to Hire Over 2K Employees
Based on the latest press release from Majid Al Futtaim, My City Centre Masdar shall:
- Feature more than 70 stores, including a Carrefour Hypermarket
- Include a variety of dining options for Masdar City residents & tourists
- Aim to be one of the most sustainable & “eco-friendly” malls in the UAE
“As we progress on developing our first mall in Abu Dhabi, My City Centre Masdar underscores Majid Al Futtaim’s commitment to the capital’s retail sector, in line with Masdar City and the UAE’s long-term sustainability goals,” stated Ghaith Shocair, CEO of Shopping Malls at Majid Al Futtaim – Properties.
“My City Centre Masdar demonstrates the delivery of our strategy to create retail destinations that address the specific needs of the communities we serve, while underscoring Majid Al Futtaim’s sustainability focus by engaging with them to promote an eco-friendlier lifestyle,” he explained.
Transport Options to My City Centre Masdar
The new mall is situated at the heart of the proposed Masdar City transit network. Specifically, it:
- Lies next to the proposed Masdar City Metro Station
- Is near the planned Bus Rapid Transit & Light Rail Transit stops
- Will be connected to other locations in Masdar City via autonomous vehicles
- Will provide bicycle parking facilities to encourage a healthier way of transport
Notably, the CEO of Masdar, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, shared: “Masdar City is growing at an unprecedented rate and is a community that is now home to more than 600 hundred businesses and thousands of residents, with new offices, homes, and leisure facilities all currently under development.”
“We expect the number of people living within the city to triple by 2020 in line with our ambitious growth plans,” he commented. “My City Centre Masdar is a valuable addition to our retail portfolio and has been developed in accordance with our stringent sustainability regulations and requirements.”
