Dubai Metro Friday Service Starts at 10am & Dubai Tram Loop Terminated

Starting October 2, the Dubai Metro’s operational hours every Friday will start at 10am instead of the usual 1pm. This is great news to tourists and residents during Friday weekends who are traveling in Dubai on this day of the week. Having an earlier time for the metro to operate on Fridays makes a faster and more convenient commute.

The operating hours on other days will stay the same, that is 5:30am till midnight and up to 1am on weekends.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the change of operating hours in response to repeated requests from commuters. The Dubai Metro is the most convenient and cheapest way to travel within Dubai and with this change, commuters can now catch the metro in the morning at the start of your weekend.

In addition, the RTA will also terminate the service of the Marina Loop Dubai Tram, slashing the total transit Tram time from 54 minutes to 45 minutes and improving the tram’s service  frequency to 8 minutes. Tram services will now end at 1am instead of 1:30am. Currently, the Marina Loop offers semi-circular loop service covering four stations – Jumeirah Beach Residence 1, Jumeirah Beach Residence 2, Jumeirah Lake Towers and Dubai Marina Mall.

RTA Rail Agency CEO Abdullah Yousef Al Ali said “RTA is seeking to deliver best-in-class services corresponding to the needs of mass transit users in general and the Metro and Tram riders in particular. We have commissioned studies about the revised operational time of the metro service on Friday where we have perceived a necessity for starting the service as early as 10am, especially that the metro links key areas in Dubai Emirate including a host of tourist, commercial and residential districts.”

Ali explains, “Studies had also been conducted about the performance of the Dubai Tram with a view to sourcing the best suggestions for boosting riders’ satisfaction. Therefore, we have opted to introduce some changes to the service format to meet expectations of riders highlighted by: Ceasing the Semi-Circular Marina Loop service of the Dubai Tram at JBR, Marina, which covers four stations: Jumeirah Beach Residence(1) , Jumeirah Beach Residence(2), JLT and Dubai Marina Mall. The study stated that abolishing this service would bring about a lot of positives such as slashing the total transit time from 54 minutes to 45 minutes, and improving the service frequency to 8 minutes.”
